Buy Nothing Day 1999:
Buy Nothing Day Goes Global
Adbusters (Canada), Nov. 23. For the first time ever, this year's Buy Nothing Day will be observed on every continent around the globe. Countries joining us in this yearly anti-shopping festivity include such far flung nations as Nigeria, Korea, Israel, Panama and Latvia.
On November 26th, join the millions of people who will take action against consumer culture by merrily storming malls, staging credit card cut-ups, exchanging home-made gifts and celebrating the virtues of simple living.
While Buy Nothing Day is enjoying ever-growing support, the "Big Three" TV networks (ABC, CBS and NBC) continue to refuse to air an ad promoting the event, claiming that it is too "controversial." However, BND ads will be broadcast throughout North America on CNN, on 50 community TV networks and 100 college radio stations.
Visit http://www.adbusters.org to view the ads, to find a complete list of international BND contacts or to download the graphic templates to make posters, T-shirts and stickers.
