BND 2004 in The Netherlands: free massage and priceless values
(By Annemarie Opmeer, Omslag)
Eindhoven (Netherlands), november 24, 2004 - Hello BND-people around the world! Here's a report about what dutch BND-activists have planned on the last saturday in November. We hope you enjoy this update, and maybe get some inspiration from this variety of ideas.Stressed consumers in Amsterdam can get a free massage near the Bijenkorf-shopping centre.
In Amersfoort the local LETS-circle and Emmaus are giving away free second-hand things from their Give-away shop in a mobile shop in the centre of the city. The motto is: Buy nothing, but give second hand things a second chance!
In Arnhem, BND is renamed into 'Consume-less-day' (Consuminderdag). The local LETS-circle, Friends of the Earth Netherlands, and Frugality with Style have a stall in the city centre. There the shopping audience can get 'priceless values'. Arhem environmental organisations also present a site with eco-fiendly services and products on www.groenegidsarnhem.n;
In Den Bosch activists have plans to go around with mobile give-away stores, and organise streettheatre. In The Hague, young activists of the socialist party are planning to auction 'NOTHING'.
This year Rotterdam has plans with a carrier bicycle with shopping addicts, who are ill and for example moan that they don't feel well, and have to buy more. Dokters and nurses will accompany the cart and write recipes to 'buy less', they will also hand out anti-greedpills and First Aid With Overconsumption packets. There will also be some healed people walking around with shopping bags on their heads, with eyeholes in it and texts like: I'm not bothered by advertising. I buy nothing today. etc. They will hand out flyers.
In Tilburg activists will help you with an alternative wish-list. Utrecht will have a Give-away-stall by young activists of the socialist party, also handing out boxes of 'happiness'. In Zwolle there will also be an exchange and give-away-stand, and Food Not Bombs will hand out delicious free vegan food.
